9 week virtual course

About the event

Course Description

White supremacy culture is killing us, and we are marching ourselves toward it. It is so innocuous, so ingrained and automatic. Like when we say, "bless you," when someone sneezes but a million times and centuries of practice more ingrained. We can’t think our way out of this. As Resmaa Menakem says, we have been taught to think about race, but it’s not in our thinking, it’s in our bodies. In this 9 week course, we offer tools, directions, and safer spaces to settle, process, and practice uprooting white supremacy culture within us. On the other side is the shared sense of connection we so deeply long for.

We encourage folks to come in groups of two or more. This work is best done as part of a community of practice with those you are already in accountable relationships with -- your family, friends, co-workers, commrades, and/or church, community, and social groups. This work of uprooting white supremacy culture within oursleves begins with us as individuals but must also spill over into our social lives and the systems that shape them if we are to all get free.

We have to bring folks along with us. Shifting organizational culture cannot happen when only one or a few of our co-workers is doing this work. You cannot be the only person in your family, friends, and other social groups doing this work and expect to shift hearts and minds. We invite you to stretch yourself and consider who you want to bring along with you on this journey.

Course Details

In this course you will …

  • Learn how racism and white supremacy culture impact the body’s need for safety.
  • Investigate “Not if, but where?” white supremacy culture lives in you.
  • Experience somatic practices that help return the body to safety, connect with the body’s wisdom in order to have conversations about racism and white supremacy culture and decolonize your way of being.
  • In caucus space (with people who look like you), have courageous conversations about how we heal in and through our body towards shared liberation. Be a part of a community of practice, safer spaces to settle, process, and practice uprooting white supremacy culture within you.

Costs

We wanted to make this course accessible for folks, and for that reason we are offering a sliding scale fee $300 -- $600 and limited full scholarships.
